SRV-1

Forget about those R/C cars with fancy stickers or paint jobs. I’d rather use a SRV-1 Mobile Surveillance Robot to explore my home, office or yard. Featuring a 32-bit processor and video camera, this mini-robot is a perfect tool for spying on neighbors or exploring the confines of any home or office!

SRV-1 Mobile Surveillance Robot

The wireless USB transmitter controls the robot up to 300 feet away with any PC. In addition, live video from the robot can be streamed to your PC, while recording every movement as an AVI video file. Multiple users can also watch the live video feed without controlling it.

Available at Think Geek for $374.99, this toy doesn’t come cheap at all. Nevertheless, if you feel a little sneaky or want to peek around the corner, the SRV-1 Mobile Surveillance Robot is a perfect buy.

Now I can only hope for Imaginary Diva to buy one for my Birthday (hint).

Dangers

Breast pumps are wonderful inventions, allowing a mom to provide breastmilk for their children when away, or even when nursing is unable to happen. But breast pumps are also medical devices, and like other medical devices should only have one user.

Diseases such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis, cytomegalovirus (CMV) can be left in a used pump, and home methods of sterilization will not remove them from the pump. FDA on June 1, 2001 issued this statement:

“The following statement is FDA’s position on the matter of reuse of breast pumps labeled for a single user. FDA does not regulate the sale of individual breast pumps by individuals to other individuals. Rather, we regulate these medical devices when they are in interstate commerce. We have not said that this practice is legal or illegal. Instead, we have the following position, which recommends that if the pump cannot be adequately disinfected between uses by different mothers, that the pump not be used by different mothers.” “FDA advises that there are certain risks presented by breast pumps that are reused by different mothers if they are not properly cleaned and sterilized. These risks include the transmission of infectious diseases or the risk of improper function. FDA believes that the proper cleaning and sterilization of breast pumps requires the removal of any fluid that has entered the pumping mechanism itself. If proper sterilization of the breast pump can not be achieved, FDA recommends that it not be reused by different mothers.”

Please remember, while buying a used pump; you might be providing your child with the gift of breastmilk, but you also might be passing on a disease. –>

Apple

Don’t buy that unlocked Apple iPhone just yet. Apple has officially gone to war with Hackers who tinker with their popular phone. As you probably know, unlocking an iPhone means that the phone can be adapted to numerous wireless services other than AT&T. Apple has promised a firmware update that will possibly re-lock the phone, thereby leaving you with an incapacitated paper holder.

Don’t Unlock Me Because Big Brother (Apple) Said so!

Despite these claims from Apple, a message posted to the iPhone forum on the Hackint0sh Web site, from someone claiming to represent the iPhone Dev Team (a group that unlocked the iPhone), said the group would answer the firmware update with a tool of its own. This tool will prevent any unlocked iPhone from being “bricked,” or incapacitated, when the future update arrives.

“We will provide you with a tool in the next week which will be able to recover your ‘nck’ counter and ’seczones’ and even enable you to restore your phone to a factory-like state if you are really [determined] to update your phone,” said someone known as “Sam”.

Let the iPhone wars begin!
